BORN AGAIN … Explained
John 3:3 Jesus answered and said unto him, Verily, verily, I say unto you, Except a man be born again, he cannot see the kingdom of God.
“Again” is the Greek word anothen, and literally means “from above.” To be “born again” is to be born from above, which means to be born of the spirit of God. “Above” simply means from heaven, which is the spiritual realm. So, to be born again is to be be born from above which is to be born of the spirit.
II Peter 1:4 Whereby are given unto us exceeding great and precious promises; that by these you might be partakers of the divine nature, having escaped the corruption that is in the world through lust.
The spirit of God births itself within us, making us partakers (we share fully) of God’s divine nature. At that moment we become a new creation, filled with the life of God.
II Corinthians 5:17 Therefore if any man be in Christ, he is a new creation, old things are passed away; behold, all things are become new.
This is all made possible by the finished work of Jesus Christ, the Son of God.
Ephesians 2:8 For by grace are you saved through faith; and that not of yourselves; it is the gift of God;
John 15:26 But when the Comforter is come, whom I will send unto you from the Father, even the spirit of truth, which proceeds from the Father, he shall testify of me.
The spirit of Christ (the spirit of God which is Christ’s to give) is in the world, and is available to anyone and everyone, simply by believing on Jesus as the Christ (“Christ” means the anointed one) of God, meaning God raised him from the dead for us all. Jesus’ death and resurrection is God’s solution for everything that’s wrong and that doesn’t work in this world, His means to restore everyone and everything back into the center of His pleasurable will and purpose for creation.
John 20:31 But these are written that you might believe that Jesus is the Christ, the Son of God; and that believing, you might have life through his name.
This includes the truth of his being raised from the dead and his active, present day lordship via his spirit that he has sent out into the world.
John 16:12-14 Howbeit when he, the spirit of truth, is come, he will guide you into all truth; for he shall not speak of himself; but whatsoever he shall hear, that shall he speak; and he will show you things to come. He shall glorify me, for he shall receive of mine, and shall show it unto you. All things that the Father has are mine; therefore said I, that he shall take of mine, and shall show it unto you.
Philippians 2:9-11 Wherefore God also has highly exalted him, and given him the name which is above every name; That at the name of Jesus every knee should bow, of things in heaven, and things in earth, and things under the earth; And that every tongue should confess that Jesus Christ is Lord, to the glory of God the Father.
Ephesians 2:4-7 But God, who is rich in mercy, for His great love wherewith He loved us, Even when we were dead in sins, has made us alive together with Christ, (by grace you are saved); And has raised us up together, and made us sit together in heavenly places in Christ Jesus; That in the ages to come He might exhibit the exceeding riches of His grace in kindness toward us through Christ Jesus.
This new spiritual birth is a gift to us, and is but the beginning of an everlasting relationship with God as our Father, and we as His children.
I John 4:9, 10 In this was manifested the love of God toward us, because that God sent His only begotten Son into the world, that we might live through him. Herein is love, not that we loved God, but that He loved us, and sent his Son to be the propitiation (payment and restitution in full) for our sins.
His love is extravagantly manifested in and toward us as His spirit reveals its nature to our understanding; thus we grow in our ability to walk in it. As this occurs (we grow up into him) we bear spiritual fruit.
Galatians 5:22, 23a But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, longsuffering, gentleness, goodness, faith, Meekness, temperance…
It is this bearing of spiritual fruit, which is uniquely expressed in and through the life of each individual believer as they grow in Christ, which glorifies God and which is His true eternal desire.
John 15:8 Herein is my Father glorified, that you bear much fruit, so shall you be my disciples.
John 6: 28, 29 Then said they unto him, What shall we do, that we might work the works of God? Jesus answered and said unto them, This is the work of God, that you believe on him whom He has sent.
The single most important “work” that God desires from us, so that we can enjoy everything He wants us to have and to be, is that we believe on His Son Jesus Christ. That’s it! That’s how we receive all that God has for us, and it will take an eternity to fully understand and enjoy!
Ephesians 3:11, 16-19 According to the purpose of the ages which He purposed in Christ Jesus our Lord; That He would grant you, according to the riches of His glory, to be strengthened with might by His Spirit in the inner man; That Christ may dwell in your hearts by faith; that you, being rooted and grounded in love, May be able to comprehend with all saints what is the breadth, and length, and depth, and height; And to know the love of Christ, which passes knowledge, that you might be filled with all the fullness of God.
