When we read or hear the word “creation” we generally think of the physical realm. The sky, the stars, the earth, water, animals, ourselves. But in the beginning of time, God created the invisible also.
Genesis 1:1 In the beginning, God created the heaven and the earth.
What do you think this “heaven” was? The sky? Outer space? The spiritual realm? (See study Where is Heaven and When do we get there?). I do know that at least a part of what God is revealing here regards the invisible, spiritual creation.
Romans 1:20a For the invisible things of Him (God) from the creation of the world (cosmos) are clearly seen, being understood by the things that are made, even His eternal power and deity……
“from” is the Greek word apo, which means “motion away from an object.” This can refer to distance or to time. Here it refers to time, beginning with the creation spoken of in Genesis 1:1.
“invisible” means literally, “unable to be perceived by the power of physical sight.” “world” (cosmos) means the actual physical result of creation. “clearly seen” means literally “to be looked down upon, be clearly perceived.” This indicates a superior viewpoint, which takes in all aspects of that which is being “seen.” “understood” means “grasped by the mind.”
“deity“, translated “Godhead” in the King James and others, is the Greek word theotes. The word “Godhead” is a terrible translation. People have come to believe that “Godhead” means “Trinity,” but that is so horrifically erroneous! Theotes comes from the Greek word theos which means God. So theotes means “God-ness, the quality of being God. Deity. Divinity.”
Something was created, at the very time of physical creation, that was designed by God to be able to understand the very nature of God. This creation could perceive clearly that which was invisible to physical sight. This cannot mean man, who came into existence as a spiritual being sometime after creation. This must be referring to what we know as angels.
So angels, at least, are invisible creation. There are other things too.
I Corinthians 2:9 But as it is written, Eye has not seen, nor ear heard, neither has entered into the heart of man, the things which God has prepared for them who love Him.
And when were these things prepared?
Ephesians 1:4 According as He has chosen us in him (Christ) before the foundation of the world (cosmos), that we should be holy and without blame before Him in love;
Consider the power that invisible things have in our life. Hopes, dreams and aspirations; love; faith; determination; courage; conviction. These things and others, being invisible, are what determine the quality of our life.
II Corinthians 4:17, 18 For our light affliction, which is but for a moment, energizes for us a far more exceeding and eternal weight of glory; While we look not at the things which are seen, but at the things which are not seen: for things which are seen are temporal; but the things which are not seen are eternal.
Do not take this revelation lightly! Man is not destined for mean, lowly things. Rather, man has been designed by God to not only grasp with the mind, but to then rule over, all the work of God’s hands!
Ephesians 1:19-23 And what is the exceeding greatness of His power toward us who believe according to the working of His mighty power, Which He energized in Christ when He raised him from the dead, and set him at His own right hand in the heavenlies, Far above every principality and power and might and dominion, and every name that is named, not only in this world (aeon – age), but also in that which is to come, And has put all things under his feet, and gave him to be the head over all things unto the church, Which is his body, the fulness of him who fulfills everything in everybody.
Do you see the true ultimate purpose for Jesus Christ? Paying for our sins, yes. But oh so much more! Establishing the eternal purpose of God upon man and indeed all of creation.
Ephesians 3:8-11 According to the purpose of the ages (aeons) which He purposed in Christ Jesus our Lord.
Man is, having been destined to be, the greatest of all of the creation of God. To not only understand, but to have dominion over, all the creation of God, including the angels. In order for this to be true. man has to have been designed before the rest of creation itself. Rather than being an afterthought of the Creator, we are the first thought. And for us was everything else designed and created.
Hebrews 1:2 (God) has in these last days spoken unto us by His son, whom He has appointed heir of all things, for whom also He made the worlds (aeons – ages);
The King James translation of the bible translates “for whom also He made the worlds” as “by whom also He made the worlds.” This is an erroneous translation of the Greek word dia. Dia is translated “by” or “by means of,” when it is in the genetive. But this is the accusative, where it should rightly be translated “for.” Also, the first half of the verse calls Jesus the “heir of all things.” This is an additonal indication that, rather than Jesus being there to create everything, he was predestined to receive everything from his Father, God. As are we!
Romans 8:16, 17a The spirit itself bears witness with our spirit, that we are the children of God; And if children, then heirs; heirs of God, and joint-heirs with Christ;…..
Joy, power, happiness, peace, contentment, strength, discernment, spirits, wisdom, exhilaration, determination, fulfillment. These are invisible things. These and other “things” have been pre-determined to be understood by us, and for us to have dominion over them. This did not happen accidentally, but has been the pre-determined purpose of God.
Ephesians 1:4, 5 According as He (God) has chosen us in him (Christ) before the foundation of the world (cosmos), that we should be holy and without blame before Him in love; Having predestinated us unto the adoption of children by Jesus Christ to Himself, according to the good pleasure of His will.
What can we do to deserve these things? What is there for us to do but to grow and learn how to understand them and enjoy them! For this is the glory of God, that His creation manifest forth His nature, His deity, in the fulfilling appreciation for, and dominion over, the invisible things of God.
I Timothy 1:17 Now unto the king of the ages, incorruptible, invisible, the only God (“wise” not in majority of Greek texts), be honor and glory for ever and ever. Amen.
